This grant provides funding to organizations and individuals with innovative projects that increase opportunities for youth, particularly in underserved communities, to participate in baseball and softball.

Description

The MLB-MLBPA Youth Development Foundation Grant is a grant opportunity for organizations and individuals that have innovative ideas to increase opportunities for youth to play baseball and softball. The grant supports various types of projects, including capital projects, baseball and softball programs, and education initiatives. It also provides funding for public schools and public school booster clubs for players and infrastructure equipment. However, the grant does not support certain expenses such as annual operating expenses, travel teams (except for programs supporting low-income youth players), restroom and concession stand construction, and individual player scholarships or sponsorships.

To apply for the grant, potential applicants need to submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) to YDF@mlb.com. The LOI should include a completed Information Form, an introductory letter, and a completed Budget Proposal. The Foundation accepts LOI submissions on a rolling basis throughout the year with no deadlines. However, the full application process may take up to 6 months from the submission of the LOI to the grant award. It is recommended to submit the LOI well in advance of the funding needed.

The Foundation does not set a specific funding range for grant requests, but it recommends that projects have secured funding from other sources prior to applying. The LOI should provide contact information, a brief summary of the organization, a description of the proposed project and need, the amount of grant being requested, a statement of need, and other relevant information. The Foundation may request additional information or a phone call to review the project/program. It is important to address every item listed in the LOI guidelines for it to be considered complete for review.

Overall, the MLB-MLBPA Youth Development Foundation Grant is a valuable opportunity for grantseekers who have innovative ideas to promote youth participation in baseball and softball. It provides funding for various types of projects and organizations, with a focus on increasing opportunities for youth in underserved communities.
