Funder: The Hearst Foundations
Award Details: The Hearst Foundations fund educational institutions that demonstrate uncommon success in preparing students for a global society. They primarily focus on higher education but also fund innovative models of early childhood and K-12 education, as well as professional development. The Foundations are only able to fund approximately 25% of all grant requests, with about 80% directed to prior grantees and 20% targeted for new grantees. Organizations with budgets over $10 million have received 80% of the funding in Education. The minimum grant size is $100,000.
Eligibility: The Hearst Foundations do not fund organizations based outside of the United States or operating with audited expenses less than $2 million. They also do not fund organizations undergoing leadership transitions or with new leadership in place for less than one year. Only registered 501(c)(3) organizations are eligible for funding, and an IRS determination letter is required.
Other Relevant Information: Preference will be given to higher education programs and scholarships, college access and success programming, professional development for educators, science education programs focusing on career pathways in STEM fields, and programs educating the next generation of health professionals. The Foundations do not fund proposals seeking funding for festivals, tours, conferences, workshops, or seminars; radio, film or television production; publications; advocacy or public policy research; special events or advertising for fundraising events; seed money or pilot programs; established programs lacking long-term impact; program-related investments (PRI); local chapters of national organizations; or scholarship/fellowship recipients studying or residing outside of the United States.
