Michigan Coastal Management Program Grant
This funding opportunity is designed to help Michigan communities develop resilience against coastal hazards, improve public access to coastal areas, and restore natural resources through projects that prioritize environmental justice and nature-based solutions.
Description
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), through the Water Resources Division, is offering grant funding for the Michigan Coastal Management Program (MCMP) for the 2026 fiscal year. The program aims to support the development of resilient coastal communities by funding projects that protect and restore coastal resources, enhance public access, revitalize ports and harbors, and mitigate coastal hazards. Priority is given to projects that incorporate resilience planning, promote diversity and environmental justice, and use nature-based solutions to address stormwater flow.
Approximately $1,000,000 in grant funding is available, supported by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) under the Coastal Zone Management Act. Eligible projects include resilience planning, policy development to mitigate coastal risks, community outreach, and initiatives that improve accessibility and equity. The program encourages projects that promote regional climate change adaptation, technical training through the Coastal Leadership Academy, and technical assistance for coastal communities.
Prospective applicants can learn more about the grant requirements and application process during a webinar on November 7, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. Early consultation with MCMP staff is advised for guidance on proposal development, and interested parties should submit a Project Interest form for individualized assistance.
Applications must be submitted via the EGLE Grants Database by December 20, 2024. Instructions for accessing the database and submitting applications are available on the Environmental Grants System (EGX) platform.
