Ceiling: $10,000
Local
Montgomery County Arts and Cultural District (MCACD)

This funding opportunity provides financial support to small to mid-sized arts and cultural organizations in Montgomery County for community-engaging projects and capacity-building initiatives.

Description

The Montgomery County Special Projects Grant program provides funding to arts and cultural organizations to create projects that engage the Montgomery County community. The program is supported by funding from the Montgomery County Arts and Cultural District (MCACD), with additional support from the Board of County Commissioners. The program is administered by Culture Works. For the 2025-2026 grant cycle, a total of $250,000 will be available for distribution to eligible organizations.

Eligible applicants include small to mid-sized arts and cultural organizations, nonprofits, schools, colleges and universities, municipalities, and government agencies located in Montgomery County. These organizations can apply for grants of up to $10,000 to support arts and cultural initiatives such as festivals, exhibitions, performances, artists’ series, and in-school arts programs. Additionally, organizations focused on arts and culture can use the funds for capacity-building activities such as strategic planning, board development, marketing and branding initiatives, website development, staff training, and feasibility studies.

Unincorporated organizations and collectives may also apply, but they must partner with a nonprofit, tax-exempt fiscal agent. However, arts and cultural organizations that already receive general operating support from the MCACD are not eligible to apply. The program encourages community-focused arts and culture projects and seeks to engage a broad cross-section of Montgomery County residents.

Applications are by invitation only, with an eligibility requirement of submitting an intent to apply. The deadline for submitting the intent to apply is March 5, 2025. Further inquiries can be addressed through virtual meetings with the Culture Works Director of Grantmaking & Impact, or via the available Zoom meeting for an information session. This program provides an excellent opportunity for local organizations to secure funding for arts and cultural projects that promote engagement and community involvement.

Applicants can refer to the guidelines and timeline for the 2025-2026 Special Projects Grant cycle for more detailed information on eligibility, required documentation, and the process for submitting an intent to apply. The program’s goal is to foster creativity, promote arts and culture, and enhance the cultural landscape within Montgomery County.
