Water & Waste Disposal Predevelopment Planning Grants
This funding opportunity provides financial assistance to low-income rural communities, local governments, nonprofit organizations, and tribes for planning and developing applications for essential water and waste disposal projects.
Description
This grant opportunity is called the Water and Waste Disposal Predevelopment Planning Grants. It is offered by the USDA Rural Development. The program aims to assist eligible low-income communities in planning and developing applications for water or waste disposal projects. Eligible applicants include most state and local governments, nonprofit organizations, and federally recognized tribes. The eligible areas for this grant are rural areas and towns with populations of 10,000 or less, federally recognized tribal lands, and colonias. The area must have a median household income below the poverty line or less than 80 percent of the statewide non-metropolitan median household income. The funds can be used for planning and developing applications for water or waste disposal projects. The maximum grant amount is $60,000 or 75 percent of the predevelopment planning costs. Matching funds of at least 25 percent of the project cost are required, and in-kind contributions do not count towards this minimum. Applications are accepted year-round through local Rural Development offices, and program resources and guidance are available online. For more information and assistance, applicants can contact their local Rural Development office or participating nonprofit associations. The program is governed by the Code of Federal Regulations, 7 CFR 1780, and Section 306 of the Consolidated Farm and Rural Development Act.
