Main Street Matters Program
This program provides funding to local governments, nonprofits, and community organizations for revitalization projects that enhance downtown areas and promote vibrant, accessible communities in Pennsylvania.
Description
The Main Street Matters Program, administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development (DCED), supports revitalization projects in downtown areas and surrounding neighborhoods to foster healthy and vibrant communities. The program offers various types of grants for planning, façade improvements, business development, district development, accessible housing, and implementation. Eligible applicants include local government units, redevelopment authorities, nonprofit organizations, community development corporations, and business improvement districts.
Grant funding is available for a range of activities, such as planning studies, architectural services, façade renovations, business microgrants or loans, public infrastructure projects, housing accessibility improvements, and implementation of district strategies. Each grant category has specific requirements for matching funds, ranging from 10% to 50%, depending on the type of project and the designation of the applicant as a Main Street or Elm Street community. Waivers may be available for communities facing financial hardship.
Applications for the 2024-2025 funding cycle must be submitted through the DCED's electronic Single Application for Assistance by November 15, 2024. Proposals should include detailed project descriptions, cost estimates, evidence of community impact, and letters of support from municipalities. Projects should be consistent with local development plans and demonstrate secured matching funds. Successful applicants will be required to comply with reporting requirements and prevailing wage laws where applicable.
