Kosciusko County Community Foundation

This grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations that serve community needs in the areas served by Kosciusko REMC, supported by contributions from local electric bill round-ups.

Description

The KREMC Operation Round Up Grant Program, administered by the Kosciusko County Community Foundation, supports charitable projects within the communities served by Kosciusko REMC. This initiative is made possible through voluntary contributions from KREMC members who round up their electric bills to the nearest dollar. The extra change is pooled into a fund used to award grants to nonprofit organizations that serve local needs.

The Operation Round Up program offers four grant cycles annually, with application deadlines on February 1, May 1, August 1, and November 1. Grant applicants must contact Alex Hall, Vice President of Programs, to schedule a discussion about their proposal before submitting a formal application. This preliminary consultation is a required step in the application process.

Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and other charitable entities. All applications must be submitted through the Community Foundation’s online grant portal. First-time applicants need to request account setup assistance from foundation staff to access the portal. Required documents for application include the IRS Determination Letter, lists of board and staff members with their city/town of residence, a completed authorization signature form, and financial documents such as the most recent Statement of Activities and Statement of Financial Position. A recent IRS Form 990 is also encouraged, though not mandatory.

The grant evaluation process takes place over a six-week period following each deadline. During the first three weeks, foundation staff review submissions for completeness and eligibility, followed by review and recommendation meetings with the KREMC Operation Round Up Committee in weeks four and five. Notification letters and grant agreements are sent out in week six.

All payment requests for approved grants are submitted through the same online portal. Grant recipients must use the provided forms for disbursement requests and adhere to reporting and financial documentation requirements outlined in their agreements.

For more information or support during the application process, applicants are encouraged to contact the foundation at alex@kcfoundation.org or 574-267-1901.
