Enhanced Mobility for Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities Program
This funding opportunity provides financial support to nonprofit organizations and local authorities to improve transportation options for seniors and individuals with disabilities in rural and small urban areas of Texas.
Description
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) 49 USC §5310 program provides funding to nonprofit organizations and other eligible recipients to support enhanced mobility for seniors and individuals with disabilities in rural and small urban areas. Administered by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the program funds traditional capital projects, operating assistance, and infrastructure projects that improve transit accessibility. Eligible projects include public transportation initiatives exceeding ADA requirements, service expansions, and technology enhancements such as security cameras and Wi-Fi on vehicles. TxDOT awards funds on a competitive basis, with an emphasis on sustaining current services and expanding mobility solutions beyond existing sustainability requests.
This is a biennial funding opportunity covering the period from September 1, 2025, to September 30, 2027. Applications must align with regional transportation plans and demonstrate the ability to complete projects within 18 months. Eligible applicants include private nonprofit organizations, state or local government authorities, and private taxi companies providing shared-ride services. Matching funds are required for certain projects, and second-year funding allocations will depend on project performance and available federal appropriations. Applications are due by March 10, 2025, at 5:00 PM CST.
