Description

Friends’ 2024 Photo Contest invites photographers of all levels to capture the beauty and vibrancy of the Cook County Forest Preserves. Whether you’re a professional or an amateur, this contest is your chance to showcase your photography skills and share the magic of local natural landscapes, wildlife, and people enjoying outdoor activities. Photos representing various seasons, locations, and subjects are encouraged, with special interest in images featuring people in the preserves.

To participate, photographers must submit photos taken within the Cook County Forest Preserves. Visit fpdcc.com to confirm the location of your photograph. Images featuring invasive or non-native species are not eligible. This rule also applies to photos taken at the Chicago Botanic Garden and Brookfield Zoo. Each participant can submit up to five photos, ensuring all submissions adhere to the naming guidelines provided.

When submitting photos, include the following information in the file name: a title (optional), the species photographed (if known), the specific location (forest preserve and town), and the photographer’s name. For youth submissions (ages 18 and under), include the photographer's birthday and note it is for the youth category. High-resolution JPG/JPEG files (300 DPI or higher) should be emailed to alex@fotfp.org with the subject line “2024 Photo Contest.” The deadline for submissions is December 31, 2024.

By entering, photographers consent to Friends using their photos on the organization’s website, social media, publications, and other materials. Permission for sharing photos beyond Friends’ platforms will be sought beforehand.

Prizes include $350 for first place, $100 each for second place, third place, and Best of categories (e.g., Fauna, Flora, Landscape, People, Youth Photographer), and $25 for honorable mentions. Winners will have their work celebrated while contributing to a shared appreciation for the natural wonders of Cook County Forest Preserves. Don’t miss your chance to participate!
