Description
The Metropolitan Arts Council (MAC) Project Support Grant for Artists offers funding to support the artistic development of individual artists in Greenville County, South Carolina. This grant focuses on covering specific project costs that contribute directly to an artist’s career growth, such as exhibition expenses, performance fees, marketing, and professional development opportunities. General living or studio expenses are not eligible for funding.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
Be a practicing artist in fields like dance, music, literature, theater, media, or visual arts.
Be at least 21 years old and not enrolled as a student during the grant period.
Reside in Greenville County for at least six months before applying and throughout the grant period.
Demonstrate the ability to match the awarded funds on a 1:1 basis.
Funding and Matching
Maximum Grant: $1,500, with a 1:1 match requirement.
Applicants may receive up to two grants per year, with each project eligible for one grant only.
Application Deadlines
Applications must be submitted by 5 PM on the specified dates, with project start periods as follows:
1st Quarter: February 15, 2024 (projects from May–July 2024)
2nd Quarter: May 15, 2024 (projects from August–October 2024)
3rd Quarter: August 15, 2024 (projects from November 2024–January 2025)
4th Quarter: November 15, 2024 (projects from February–April 2025)
Application Materials
A complete application must include:
Certification Form: Ten copies.
Project Narrative: Two-page description of the project’s goals, significance, and timeline.
Budget: A detailed budget outlining project expenses and matching funds.
Supporting Materials: Résumé or bio, work samples, and other relevant materials like press clippings or testimonials.
Assessment Criteria
Applications are evaluated based on:
Artistry and Feasibility (60%): Professional quality, planning, and alignment with MAC’s funding priorities.
Public Impact (15%): The project’s contribution to the community and its potential to raise interest in the artist’s work.
Project Management (20%): Detailed marketing plan, budget clarity, and evidence of financial viability.
Compliance (5%): Completeness and adherence to application requirements.
Grant Award Process
If awarded, recipients receive 50% of the funds upon signing a contract. The remaining balance is disbursed after project completion and submission of a final report, which includes a project summary, final budget, and publicity materials acknowledging MAC’s support. The final report is due within six months of the grant contract date.
