Ujima Legacy Fund
This funding opportunity supports nonprofit organizations in the Richmond area that empower Black youth and young adults through education and capacity-building initiatives.
Description
Ujima Legacy Fund is a collective giving circle created by and for civic-minded African American men. It supports projects in the Richmond region that promote equitable outcomes among youth and young adults, ages 12 to 21, with a focus on Black/African American youth. The fund seeks to empower youth through education-related initiatives and considers capacity-building requests to strengthen the infrastructure and increase the program capacity of nonprofit organizations serving the target demographic. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) nonprofits serving the residents of the City of Richmond and the counties of Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico, Goochland, and Powhatan. Applications from individual religious institutions, private foundations, colleges and universities, individuals, or for debt reduction, endowments, bridge funding, and legal expenses are not accepted. A volunteer committee reviews requests, conducts site visits, and finalists present to the full membership for award decisions, announced at an annual celebration event.
Award decisions will be finalized through a live vote of Ujima members following finalist presentations.
