Global Health Security (GHS) Activity
This funding opportunity is designed to enhance Pakistan's ability to prevent and respond to infectious diseases by improving health coordination, surveillance systems, and emergency response capabilities, initially focusing on Sindh Province.
The Global Health Security (GHS) Activity, funded by USAID, is designed to strengthen Pakistan's capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to emerging infectious diseases (EIDs). This initiative is part of the broader U.S. Government Global Health Security Strategy, emphasizing a One Health approach, which integrates human, animal, and environmental health efforts to better address disease threats.
The primary objectives of the GHS Activity are to operationalize a One Health approach, improving coordination between federal and provincial levels and reinforcing health workforce and policy frameworks. It also aims to strengthen disease detection and surveillance systems by expanding and digitizing integrated disease surveillance systems and enhancing multi-sectoral data integration. Additionally, the project will focus on building capacity for rapid and effective response to EID outbreaks, concentrating on improving infection prevention and control (IPC), emergency management systems, and sanitary animal production practices.
The project is expected to receive $43 million over five years, starting in February 2025. Activities will initially focus on Sindh Province and then potentially expand to other regions. Applicants are required to submit their applications by November 15, 2024, with the deadline for questions set for October 7, 2024.
