With a total funding pool of $5 million in Azure service credits, the program facilitates scientific collaboration with the Microsoft AI for Good Lab. The primary goal is to drive innovative artificial intelligence (AI) projects across three key areas: sustainability, public health, and human rights. By providing resources and expertise, the initiative seeks to foster technological solutions that address complex societal challenges and deliver measurable social impact.

As Microsoft approaches its 50th anniversary, the company emphasizes its longstanding commitment to Washington State and its communities. The program serves as a recognition of the region’s role in Microsoft's success and underscores the company’s dedication to investing in its local communities. By supporting impactful AI-driven projects, Microsoft aims to empower researchers, nonprofits, and businesses to harness AI for transformative solutions in critical sectors.

Eligible applicants must be based in Washington State or have projects that directly benefit its residents. Eligible entities include nonprofit organizations, academic institutions, independent researchers, startups, and businesses that align with the program’s focus areas. Projects should demonstrate innovation, feasibility, and scalability while effectively leveraging Azure cloud services. A strong emphasis is placed on ensuring that the proposed AI solutions can be deployed successfully and make a tangible impact.

To apply, interested candidates must submit an online application by 4:59 PM Pacific Time on Monday, February 17, 2025. Selected applicants will be notified by March 18, 2025. Evaluation of proposals will be based on how well the project addresses societal challenges in sustainability, public health, or human rights. Additionally, the capacity to deploy AI solutions using Azure cloud services and the potential to scale the initiative will be key factors in the review process. Proposals that demonstrate a clear roadmap for implementation and long-term impact will be prioritized.
