Description
The FY25-26 Richland County Historic Preservation Grant, administered by the Richland County Conservation Commission (RCCC), aims to support the preservation, restoration, and rehabilitation of historically significant buildings and sites within Richland County, South Carolina. The grant also funds educational and research programs that promote the county’s historic resources and foster awareness of historic preservation. Grants of up to $50,000 are available and must be matched by a 20% contribution, which can include in-kind services.
Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, governmental agencies, educational institutions, and commercial entities that have been established for at least one year prior to application. Projects involving private buildings that are not open to the public are ineligible. Applications must demonstrate historical significance, public benefit, and a detailed, feasible budget. Work must align with RCCC Historic Preservation Standards and Guidelines, and projects cannot include routine maintenance, new construction, or previously completed work.
Applications open on December 1, 2024, and the submission deadline is February 1, 2025. Applications are reviewed by a Historic Committee, with short presentations scheduled for March. Awards are finalized by the Richland County Council in July, and grant agreements must be signed before project activities begin. Projects must be completed by June 15, 2026, with quarterly progress reports required throughout the grant period.
The program emphasizes public benefit and encourages partnerships to expand community impact. Eligible activities include preservation work, feasibility studies, and educational initiatives. Funding is provided on a reimbursement basis, and applicants must submit a detailed budget with three quotes for project costs. Public acknowledgment of RCCC funding is required for all funded projects.
