Kazakhstans media sector is navigating an important phase of growth and modernization as it adapts to global changes in technology, storytelling, and audience engagement. While local media outlets have made progress, many continue to face challenges in fully adopting innovative tools and practices needed to meet the expectations of a growing digital audience. As news consumption increasingly shifts from traditional platforms to digital, social, and mobile-based media, the demand for modern, high-quality journalism has never been greater. To remain competitive and relevant, newsroomswhether traditional, digital-native, hybrid, or radio-basedrequire expertise in areas such as immersive journalism, advanced storytelling techniques, data-driven decision-making, and audience engagement strategies. For radio newsrooms in particular, digital archiving solutions are essential for enhancing accessibility and expanding reach. Embracing digital tools and strategies is crucial for expanding outlets reach and impact in a rapidly evolving media landscape. The U.S. Mission has a history of supporting initiatives aimed at improving media professionalism, ethics, and digital capabilities. Previous programs, which included workshops on video storytelling and social media engagement, resulted in measurable audience growth and improved reporting practices. Lessons learned from these efforts indicate the importance of tailored, hands-on training and ongoing mentorship to address outlet-specific needs. Additionally, a focus on sustainability, including diversified revenue models, is critical to supporting the long-term success of media organizations. Project Audience(s): Mid-career journalists, editors, and producers (ages 2545) of all genders from traditional, digital-native, and hybrid newsrooms, young journalists and recent graduates (ages 2030) in urban and regional centers, technical staff in radio newsrooms across Kazakhstan. Project Goal: To strengthen Kazakh newsrooms by equipping media professionals with skills, tools, and strategies through U.S. expert-led workshops, enhancing content quality, audience engagement, and sustainability.
