Description

The Betty Ann McCullough Grants Programs are supported by a fund within the Gibson County Community Foundation. The programs aim to support educational efforts in Gibson County, Indiana, with a focus on enhancing the quality of education for students and educators in the areas of mathematics, science, and language arts. These grants honor the legacy of Betty Ann McCullough, a long-time educator in the North Gibson School Corporation and a strong advocate for education in her community.

The Betty Ann McCullough Education Seminar and Convocation Grants Program provides funds to both public and private schools in Gibson County to host educational seminars and convocations aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of educators in science, mathematics, and language arts. These seminars are specifically designed for teachers, teacher’s aides, and assistants.

The Betty Ann McCullough Enrichment Project Grants Program serves to provide funds for innovative educational projects, programs, and equipment designed to improve opportunities for youth and adult residents of Gibson County in mathematics, science, and language arts. The program is open to schools, including institutions of higher learning, libraries, and other public educational organizations based or having substantial programs in the county.

The Betty Ann McCullough Teaching Achievement Grants Program awards a public school educator for exceptional dedication and success in improving students’ mathematics or language arts skills. Nominations are accepted from educators, school staff, and parents, but self-nominations are not permitted. The award must be used to enhance the educator’s knowledge or teaching skills in these subjects.

The Betty Ann McCullough Education Fund, created in 1998, supports these educational grants in memory of Betty Ann McCullough, who contributed significantly to the education sector in Gibson County before her passing in 1997.

Applications for the grants are accepted between January 16, 2025, and March 5, 2025, with a final submission deadline at midnight on March 5, 2025. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements, including nonprofit organizations with tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or governmental agencies serving Gibson County. Nonprofits without the 501(c)(3) designation may still apply if their project supports a charitable cause and benefits the community.

An orientation meeting is available for new applicants, and a fiscal sponsor agreement is required for organizations that are not designated as 501(c)(3) public charities but still wish to apply. The applications will be reviewed by the McCullough Education Committee, and successful applicants will be notified no later than May 30, 2025. A final report may be required upon project completion for those awarded funding.
