TSET Built Environment Grants
This funding opportunity supports nonprofit organizations, public entities, tribal nations, and educational institutions in Oklahoma to improve community infrastructure that promotes physical activity and nutrition.
Description
The TSET Built Environment Grants aim to improve health outcomes in Oklahoma by funding projects that enhance community infrastructure to promote physical activity and nutrition. These grants support initiatives such as the development of parks and trail systems, upgrades to community fitness centers and downtown areas, and the construction of ADA-compliant sidewalks and playgrounds. By fostering healthier environments, the grants align with TSET’s Constitutional focus areas, including tobacco prevention, health improvement programs for children and seniors, and enhanced access to healthcare services.
Eligible applicants for these grants include 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, public entities, tribal nations, and educational institutions. Applicants must have a physical office within Oklahoma and provide programs or services directly to Oklahomans. Additional requirements include adopting a tobacco-free policy for all properties, implementing a worksite wellness policy, and ensuring good standing with the Oklahoma Secretary of State. Organizations that receive funding or benefits from tobacco product sales are not eligible. If multiple partners are involved in a project, the lead organization must act as the primary contractor and fiscal agent.
The grant process follows a structured timeline. The funding opportunity opens on November 19, 2024, and questions must be submitted by December 20, 2024. Completed applications are due by February 12, 2025, and award decisions will be made in May 2025, with notifications sent later that month. Funded projects are expected to commence by August 1, 2025. Applications should demonstrate alignment with TSET’s objectives, detail project plans, and outline expected outcomes. Previous grantees, such as Northwestern Oklahoma State University, have utilized funds for projects like constructing multi-use sports courts to enhance community fitness.
Interested organizations can access the Request for Application (RFA) through the TSET Funding Portal, where additional resources, such as guidance videos, are also available. Applications should clearly articulate the project’s goals, strategies, and potential impact on community health and infrastructure. Compliance with all eligibility requirements and deadlines is critical to ensure consideration for funding.
