Housing Affordability Grant

This funding opportunity provides financial support to nonprofit organizations in the Triangle region of North Carolina that are working to improve housing affordability and access for residents facing economic challenges.

Triangle Community Foundation, a regional grantmaking organization based in North Carolina, is offering a new funding opportunity focused on housing affordability through its Strategic Initiative program. Triangle Community Foundation serves Chatham, Durham, Orange, and Wake Counties and works to support nonprofit organizations addressing some of the region’s most pressing needs. The Foundation recognizes that affordable housing is a critical challenge affecting both the quality of life for local residents and the economic health of the area. In particular, population growth has led to a sharp rise in housing prices, making it difficult for essential workers, such as teachers and service industry employees, to afford housing close to their places of employment. This in turn leads to workforce shortages, increased commuting, and widening economic disparities.

The Foundation’s new grant initiative seeks to support organizations that are working to address housing affordability through strategies spanning the entire housing continuum. This includes work in affordable housing development, provision of rental and down payment assistance, eviction and foreclosure prevention, housing counseling, and advocacy for policy reforms. The Foundation’s goal is to support strategies that create and preserve affordable housing, while promoting stable housing conditions and equitable access for all residents in the Triangle region.

The grant program will provide one-year general operating grants of up to $25,000 each. The funding is designed to support organizations with at least three years of experience working on housing affordability in the Triangle. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) nonprofits that are physically based in and actively serving Chatham, Durham, Orange, or Wake County. Only one application per organization will be considered, and all applicants must comply with the Foundation’s non-discrimination policy.

Applications for this funding opportunity will open on February 12, 2025, and close on March 14, 2025. Applicants will be evaluated based on their alignment with the Foundation’s housing affordability goals, their track record of delivering successful programs, financial health, and commitment to equity and community engagement. The Foundation also aims to ensure that the final group of funded organizations represents a diverse set of housing strategies and serves all four counties equitably.

To support applicants, the Foundation is offering a Spring 2025 Information Session webinar recording, which is available for interested organizations. Organizations are encouraged to review this material and reach out with any questions before the application deadline. Final grantee selections will be announced on June 16, 2025.

For questions about the application process, applicants can contact Zach Ward, Senior Program Officer, by email at zach@trianglecf.org or by phone at 919-474-8370 ext. 4028. Triangle Community Foundation’s main office is located at 800 Park Offices Dr, Suite 201, Research Triangle Park, NC 27709, and its mailing address is PO Box 12729, Durham, NC 27709.
