Climate and Environmental Science Fellowship for Local Journalism

State
Metcalf Institute

This fellowship provides resources and training for local newsrooms in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts to enhance their climate and environmental reporting, particularly benefiting those serving marginalized communities.

Description

The University of Rhode Island's Metcalf Institute is now accepting applications for the Climate and Environmental Science Fellowship for Local Journalism, targeting newsrooms in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. This fellowship, aimed at entire newsrooms rather than individuals, offers resources to improve local climate and environmental reporting. Ten selected newsrooms will participate in a program that includes interactive training, a $1,000 stipend, and three months of coaching, with the goal of fostering long-term, accurate, and community-focused climate coverage.

Eligibility requires that participating newsrooms designate a fellow to lead climate and environmental reporting and an additional team member (one of whom must be senior staff). Applicants must commit to attending at least five of six workshops and monthly coaching sessions. The fellowship particularly encourages applications from newsrooms serving marginalized communities, and independent journalists may apply if they work closely with a newsroom.
