Partnership for Just Housing Grant
This funding opportunity provides financial support to state and local organizations working to improve housing access for formerly incarcerated individuals and their families, promoting policies that combat housing discrimination and homelessness.
Description
The 2025 Partnership for Just Housing Grant is a funding opportunity announced by the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) in collaboration with the Partnership for Just Housing (PJH). This grant aims to support state- and local-level organizations that are focused on advancing policies to improve housing access for formerly incarcerated and convicted individuals and their families. The initiative is part of NLIHC's broader mission to achieve racially and socially equitable public policies that ensure people with the lowest incomes have access to quality, affordable housing in communities of their choice.
NLIHC is a coalition that includes a diverse range of members such as residents of public and assisted housing, individuals experiencing homelessness, housing providers, fair housing organizations, and public housing agencies. The coalition does not represent any single segment of the housing field but works collectively on behalf of low-income people who require federal housing assistance. The Partnership for Just Housing is a national collaborative convened by NLIHC, the Shriver Center on Poverty Law, the Formerly Incarcerated Convicted People and Families Movement (FICPFM), and the National Housing Law Project (NHLP). This collaborative focuses on ending housing discrimination against individuals impacted by the criminal legal system.
The grant offers financial assistance to two selected organizations, providing $50,000 per year for two years. The funding is intended to support policy efforts that remove barriers and promote access to safe, affordable housing for formerly incarcerated and convicted individuals. Additionally, grantees will participate in cohort learning experiences and gain access to resources, networks, and technical assistance from NLIHC, PJH, and its affiliates. The grant specifically aims to enhance the capacity of organizations to involve formerly incarcerated individuals in policy and advocacy work and to engage with lawmakers on policies that increase housing access.
Eligible applicants must demonstrate a commitment to PJH’s goals and values, focusing on advancing housing access for formerly incarcerated individuals and ending the cycle of incarceration and homelessness. Organizations should have a state, local, or regional focus, as national organizations are not eligible. Preference is given to organizations led by or employing individuals who have experienced incarceration, although this is not a mandatory requirement. Eligible applicants can be from any of the 50 states, D.C., as well as Tribal and territorial organizations.
Grant recipients are required to submit a brief report every six months, detailing how the grant funds are being utilized, the projects planned or underway, and the impact of their engagement with state or local lawmakers. The application deadline for this grant is March 3, 2025, with grantees being selected by April 4, 2025. Interested applicants can submit their applications via an online form or email them to Kim Johnson, the manager of policy at NLIHC, at kjohnson@nlihc.org.
