PLTW Computer Science Grant
This grant provides funding to public and charter schools in specific onsemi communities to implement or expand computer science education, particularly for schools serving high-need student populations.
Description
The ON Semiconductor Foundation, through its onsemi Giving Now program, is partnering with Project Lead the Way (PLTW) to offer grants supporting the implementation or expansion of the PLTW Computer Science program for the 2025-2026 school year. This initiative targets public and charter schools in specific onsemi communities, fostering STEM education by enabling schools to offer PLTW Computer Science courses.
The grant's purpose is to expand access to high-quality computer science education in schools serving onsemi communities. It aims to equip students with critical skills in programming, problem-solving, and computational thinking while emphasizing the inclusion of schools with a high percentage of students qualifying for free and reduced lunch programs.
A total of $10,000 will be awarded to selected schools for the 2025-2026 academic year. Funds can be used for PLTW participation fees, required computers or tablets, program-required equipment and supplies, optional equipment and supplies, and costs related to PLTW Core Training (including travel, room, and board). Unallowable expenses include salaries, benefits, infrastructure, renovations, and other costs not specified as allowable.
Eligible applicants include public and charter schools planning to offer at least one PLTW Computer Science course during the 2025-2026 academic year. Schools must be within 50 miles of one of the following onsemi communities: Scottsdale, AZ; San Jose, CA; Nampa, ID; Livonia, MI; Hudson, NH; Hopewell Junction, NY; Gresham, OR; Mountain Top, PA; Greenwich, RI; and Richardson, TX. Schools should also prioritize support for high-need student populations.
Applications must be submitted by February 7, 2025. Grantees must comply with program requirements, including offering at least one PLTW Computer Science course and completing a year of grant reporting. Annual Grant and Financial Reports must be submitted by April 15 each year of the grant period. Additionally, grantees must assist PLTW in collecting teacher and student surveys to assess program outcomes.
To apply, schools should outline their planned use of grant funds, ensuring alignment with allowable expenses and the grant's educational goals. Selected schools will receive funding for the academic year, enabling them to launch or expand their computer science programs and contribute to STEM education in their communities.
