Pennsylvania Wine Marketing and Research Program Board
This program provides funding to support marketing and research initiatives that enhance wine production and promote the Pennsylvania wine industry.
Description
The Pennsylvania Wine Marketing and Research Program Board, established by state law, oversees the distribution of funds collected through the Agricultural Commodity Marketing Act (ACMA) from producers. These funds, which can amount to up to $1 million annually allocated by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB), are dedicated to the marketing and research of wine production exclusively. The board's efforts aim to increase the production of Pennsylvania wine and enhance the industry through various promotion, marketing, and research-based programs and projects. The program collaborates with state or federal agencies and other organizations to conduct research on topics such as the Characterization of Accentuated Cut Edges (ACE), impacts of Spotted Lanternfly, grapevine leafroll viruses, tannin extraction, and more. Annual requests for proposals (RFP) are published in the Pennsylvania Bulletin under the Department of Agriculture, usually in January, with proposals reviewed and recommended by the board to the PLCB for funding.
