Established in 1953, the fund prioritizes new or experimental projects with participant-driven approaches that address the needs of the community.
Grants typically range from $1,500 to $10,000, with a median award of $7,300. Eligible applicants are 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations serving Monroe County. Applications from previously funded organizations are considered only after submitting final reports and allowing 18 months since the last funding. The fund supports small-scale, startup, innovative projects that are directly driven by participant needs. Examples of past projects include affordable transportation for seniors, workplace skill development for at-risk youth, and educational resources to enhance labor relations.
Applications are due by 4 p.m. on January 17, 2025, with quarterly opportunities in May, August, and November. After submission, applications are reviewed by the fund's advisory committee, which conducts site visits and evaluates proposals based on their alignment with funding priorities. Recommendations are reviewed by the Community Foundation’s Board of Directors, with funding decisions typically announced within 3–4 months of the deadline.
