Comprehensive Alcohol Research Centers (P60 Clinical trial Optional)
This funding opportunity provides up to $1.25 million per year for five years to research centers focused on advancing interdisciplinary studies related to alcohol use disorder, including prevention, treatment, and health disparities, while promoting diversity in research and community education.
Description
The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) is soliciting applications for Comprehensive Alcohol Research Centers through the P60 mechanism. These centers aim to foster interdisciplinary, collaborative research on a wide array of topics relevant to alcohol use disorder (AUD), including its etiology, genetics, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and associated health disparities. The centers must also include a dissemination core to expand community education, targeting diverse and historically underserved populations. These research centers are expected to function as regional and national resources, contributing to innovative research methods and fostering collaborations with other institutions and investigators.
The funding opportunity, RFA-AA-24-008, anticipates awarding up to $7 million to fund six centers, with each center's budget capped at $1.25 million per year for up to five years. Eligible applicants include higher education institutions, nonprofits, for-profit organizations, and government entities. A Plan for Enhancing Diverse Perspectives (PEDP) is a critical component of the application and will be reviewed for scientific merit. Failure to include this plan will result in the application being considered incomplete.
Applications are due by November 15, 2024, with letters of intent encouraged by October 15, 2024. Each center is required to support pilot projects for early-stage investigators and promote diversity within the research workforce. Prospective applicants must follow the NIH Multi-Project (M) application instructions and are encouraged to use the NIH ASSIST system for submission.
