The Gibson/Woodbury Charitable Foundation Grant
This grant provides financial support to nonprofit organizations in the Mount Washington Valley region and neighboring Fryeburg, Maine, to promote community wellness and vitality through various charitable activities.
Description
The Gibson/Woodbury Charitable Foundation was established in 2010 by founders Harvey D. Gibson, Helen W. Gibson, Wendell D. Woodbury, and Evelyn S. Woodbury with a mission to enhance the vitality and wellness of the residents in the Mount Washington Valley region. Based in North Conway, New Hampshire, the foundation supports established nonprofit organizations that serve the local community, including parts of neighboring Fryeburg, Maine.
The foundation does not restrict funding to any particular field of interest. Instead, it supports a broad range of charitable activities that align with its mission of community wellness and vitality. Applicants are expected to be tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organizations. The foundation considers applications from nonprofits based in Carroll County, New Hampshire, and Fryeburg, Maine.
Funding is distributed semi-annually, with application deadlines set for May 15 (for decisions by June 30) and November 15 (for decisions by December 31). Each organization may submit only one application per 12-month period. Proposals must be mailed and include a signed cover letter describing the project, a current organizational budget, IRS 501(c)(3) determination letter, financial statements from the past two years, and disclosure of any pending or probable legal claims. Incomplete or late applications will not be reviewed.
While the foundation aims to be inclusive, there are several exclusions. It does not fund annual operating support such as salaries, individual requests, media or publication costs, conferences, religious programming, or emergency requests outside the biannual application periods. Grants that are approved are subject to customized post-grant reporting requirements to ensure funds are used appropriately and within the specified timelines.
The foundation is overseen by Trustees and an Advisory Board, and its Executive Director, Mark Butterfield, handles administrative operations. Applications and related documentation must be mailed to the foundation’s address at P.O. Box 406, North Conway, NH 03860. Additional information, including a downloadable grant application form, is available via the foundation’s website or by contacting the foundation directly at 603-356-5315.
