Program Description: The Facade Grant Program is offered by the City of Newaygo TIFA for commercial and mixed-use property owners and lessees in the TIFA district. The program aims to encourage permanent physical improvements to buildings within the district. It provides a competitive matching grant of up to 50% of eligible costs. The program is funded by the City of Newaygo TIFA.
Award Details: The first round of funding for the program has been approved for up to $15,000. Project awards will be made at the beginning of each calendar quarter, subject to available funding. Application deadlines prior to each calendar quarter award are February 28, May 31, August 31, and November 30. The grant committee will review applications submitted at each deadline until funds are depleted. Additional funding may become available at the beginning of each fiscal year starting July 1st.
Eligibility: Eligible applicants must be located in the TIFA district and can include property owners or leaseholders of commercial or mixed-use buildings within the district area. Preference will be given to new applicants who have not received grant funding from the program before.
Other Information: All grant-funded improvements must be permanent and meet state, county, and local code requirements. Eligible improvements include exterior repairs, window/door replacement/repair, architectural details repair/replacement, landscaping, awnings/marquees/doors/windows construction/renovation, and other city-approved facade improvements. Signage and non-permanent improvements are ineligible expenses. Projects must be completed within one year from the date of grant approval.
