Student Research Fellowship Awards
This program provides funding to undergraduate, medical, and graduate students in the U.S. to conduct research on Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) under the mentorship of qualified faculty.
Description
The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation’s Student Research Fellowship Awards program is designed to support undergraduate, medical, and graduate students who wish to conduct research on Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. The program aims to encourage young scholars to explore IBD research and potentially pursue careers in this field. Awardees must spend a minimum of 10 weeks on their research project under the guidance of a qualified faculty mentor.
Eligible applicants include students currently enrolled at accredited institutions within the United States who are not yet engaged in thesis research. Individuals already receiving similar salary support from other organizations are not eligible to apply. Mentors must not be related to the applicant or work within the same lab, and they must be faculty members actively directing a research project directly related to IBD at an accredited institution.
Each selected student will receive a one-time award of up to $2,500, which is disbursed to the institution rather than the individual. The program anticipates making up to 16 awards. Award recipients are required to submit both a scientific report and a complete financial statement by September 1 of the award year. Furthermore, all publications resulting from the funded research must acknowledge the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s support. Failure to comply with reporting and acknowledgment requirements may disqualify recipients from future funding opportunities from the Foundation.
All applications must be submitted through the Proposal Central system. Detailed instructions and policies are provided through this platform. The deadline for online submissions for the Spring/Summer cycle is April 1, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Applications will be reviewed during April and May, with final decisions announced in mid to late June 2025.
The awards are made possible by the Dr. David M. Roseman Memorial Fund, with additional support from The Bern Schwartz Family Foundation. For questions related to the application process, applicants are encouraged to contact N'Dea Johnson at training_awards@crohnscolitisfoundation.org. For post-award management inquiries, the contact is postaward@crohnscolitisfoundation.org. The program reflects the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to advancing scientific research and ultimately improving the lives of individuals living with IBD.
