City of Park City

This grant provides financial support to property owners of historic sites in Park City for the preservation and restoration of their buildings, ensuring the community maintains its historical character.

Description

The Historic District Competitive Grant for fiscal year 2025 is aimed at encouraging the preservation, rehabilitation, and restoration of historic structures within Park City. This grant program offers financial incentives to property owners whose properties are listed as Significant or Landmark Historic Sites on the city's Historic Sites Inventory. The program supports maintaining the historical integrity of these sites by offering a matching grant of up to 50% of eligible project costs. It aims to foster a community that values and preserves its historic character.

Eligible projects include both interior and exterior repairs related to preservation, rehabilitation, or restoration. Examples of funded activities include restoring windows, repairing or replacing roofs, upgrading electrical or mechanical systems, and restoring historic features such as porches. However, the grant does not cover costs for new additions, landscaping, interior remodeling, or acquisition. An emergency grant option provides up to $5,000 for urgent repairs necessitated by imminent threats to safety or structural integrity.

Applications for this cycle are accepted between October 1 and December 31, 2024. Property owners must submit completed applications, including detailed project descriptions, cost estimates, photographs of existing conditions, and relevant planning approvals, to the Planning Department at Park City Municipal Corporation. Submissions can be made by mail, email (with size restrictions), or in person. Approved projects must be completed within one year, and grant funds are disbursed upon submission of proof of payment, invoices, and completed work photographs.

Additional requirements include signing a Historic Preservation Agreement and recording a Trust Deed and Trust Deed Note with Summit County for five years. Grants exceeding $25,000 necessitate a recorded Historic Preservation Easement. Participation in a database of past projects, which may include exterior photographs, is optional.

The evaluation criteria for the grant include compliance with historical preservation standards, project feasibility, and alignment with program objectives. Regular meetings of the Historic Preservation Board are held on the first Wednesday of each month to review applications. Prospective applicants must provide evidence of ownership or authorization and ensure that properties are not tax delinquent.
