First Steps Grants
This funding opportunity provides $1,000 to newly established animal welfare organizations that have a strong business plan and a commitment to sustainable operations.
Description
The Binky Foundation offers a unique grant program specifically focused on supporting newly formed or young animal welfare organizations. Their philosophy emphasizes that small, well-structured efforts can lead to substantial achievements in animal and habitat protection. Recognizing the difficulty of obtaining initial funding, The Binky Foundation seeks to assist organizations in their critical first stages by offering "First Steps" grants and, later, invitation-only "Forward Steps" grants.
The First Steps Grant Program awards $1,000 grants to organizations that meet three key criteria: they must have been recognized as a 501(c)(3) public charity within the last three years, have key leadership who have completed relevant training in both business and animal welfare operations, and have developed a purposeful and detailed business/action plan that outlines sustainability and community impact. The business/action plan is a centerpiece of the application and must demonstrate thoughtful planning, operational execution, financial projections, and community engagement strategies.
Organizations interested in applying must complete an online application, providing proof of tax-exempt status, evidence of required training or experience, and the detailed business/action plan. Paper or emailed applications that do not use the official online form are not accepted. Grants are awarded solely at the discretion of The Binky Foundation, and applications missing information may be rejected without further follow-up.
The Forward Steps Grant Program is available only by invitation and is restricted to organizations that previously received a First Steps grant and have demonstrated operational and financial sustainability. Invitations for Forward Steps grants are extended at least 12 months after the initial First Steps grant award, and detailed application instructions are provided at the time of invitation.
The Binky Foundation does not fund individual pet care costs, direct veterinary reimbursement, or individual medical, housing, or food expenses. Individuals needing such support are encouraged to seek help from local shelters or organizations.
