Description

The Mayor’s Office of Economic and Community Development (MOECD) in Charleston, West Virginia, invites applications for the 2025-26 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. Funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), this grant supports non-profit agencies, community organizations, educational institutions, and civic groups that serve low- to moderate-income individuals. Applications are due by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2025, and are available online.

MOECD will host an application workshop on December 18, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the City Service Center Conference Room located at 915 Quarrier St., Charleston, WV 25301. The workshop will provide guidance on funding requirements, eligible activities, and the application process. Attendance is not mandatory but is highly recommended, particularly for first-time applicants or organizations that have not previously received funding.

Eligible activities under the CDBG program must align with at least one of HUD’s primary objectives: benefiting low- and moderate-income individuals, eliminating slums or blight, or addressing urgent needs. These requirements ensure that projects supported by the program contribute to the community's economic and social development.

Applications are divided into categories, including public services, and renovation, construction, or acquisition projects. Application forms are available for download online, and detailed eligibility requirements can be found at HUD’s official site: https://www.hudexchange.info/programs/cdbg-entitlement/cdbg-entitlement-program-eligibility-requirements.

For additional information or assistance with the application process, applicants are encouraged to contact Paige Hill at 304-348-8035 or via email at paige.hill@cityofcharleston.org. Prospective applicants are urged to review the requirements carefully and take advantage of the resources offered through the workshop to ensure a complete and competitive submission.
