Description
The Community Foundation of Van Buren County, a component fund of the Quad Cities Community Foundation, provides grants to support charitable projects and programs that enhance the quality of life in Van Buren County, Iowa. Established in 2005, the foundation distributes funds annually from its endowment earnings and state funds to nonprofit organizations that align with its mission. The foundation supports a wide range of community needs, including arts and culture, health, human services, historic preservation, and general community betterment.
The grant program operates on an annual cycle, with the 2025 Spring Grant offering awards of up to $5,000 per project. Funding is generally limited to nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status or qualified governmental agencies. All applicants must comply with the Quad Cities Community Foundation’s Diversity and Non-Discrimination Policy. The grant process is managed through an online application system, requiring organizations to create an account, complete the application, and submit a final report upon project completion.
Grant applications must demonstrate a clear community need, provide a financial plan including a line-item budget, and outline measurable outcomes. Projects must have a significant impact on the community, avoid duplication of existing services, and show evidence of community support such as volunteer involvement and collaboration with other organizations. The foundation requires at least a 50% funding match, with a minimum of 25% being a cash contribution. The grant does not support deficit financing, funding for individuals, religious or political organizations promoting a specific doctrine, annual fundraising efforts, or projects already funded in the same year.
Applications open on January 5, 2025, and must be submitted by March 15, 2025. Grant recipients will be notified by April 18, 2025. Organizations receiving funding must complete a final report detailing the use of funds and project impact within twelve months of receiving the grant. Grant funds must be used exclusively for the approved purpose, and any unused funds must be returned.
The evaluation process prioritizes projects that address key community needs, demonstrate financial viability, and offer a sustainable long-term impact. Consideration is given to the number of people served, measurable outcomes, availability of matching funds, and overall feasibility. The foundation rarely awards multi-year grants and generally funds only one project per organization per year.
