Small Urban Partnership Support Grant

Ceiling: $100,000
Private
Tennessee Arts Commission

This grant provides operational funding to arts organizations in Tennessee's urban counties to support their annual expenses and promote diverse artistic representation.

Description

The Small Urban Partnership Support (SUPS) grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission provides operational funding to arts organizations chartered in one of Tennessee’s urban counties. Eligible organizations may request up to 30% of their annual cash operating expenses, with a maximum grant of $45,000. A one-to-one match is required, and funding is competitive, depending on the organization’s rating during the review process and the Commission’s available funds. Organizations must have a minimum annual budget of $30,000 and a three-year funding history with the Commission to qualify.

Eligible organizations must be legally chartered and headquartered in Tennessee, operate independently, and involve at least one recognized art form such as visual arts, music, theater, or dance. National or regional 501(c)3 organizations chartered in Tennessee and serving as umbrella organizations are restricted to one application per fiscal year. Applicants must not have a current fiscal deficit, and all financials, including IRS Form 990 or a signed Profit & Loss Statement, must be up-to-date.

First-time applicants must contact their program director to confirm eligibility before applying. The SUPS grant also requires recipients to conduct a promotional campaign for the Specialty License Plate program, incorporating promotional elements into their communications efforts. Compliance with these requirements, including financial documentation and promotional efforts, will be reviewed during the grant closeout process.

The application process involves registering in the Tennessee Arts Commission’s Online Grants System, updating organizational and personnel profiles, completing the grant application, and submitting required documents such as board lists, proof of advocacy, and financial audits. Applications must be submitted by January 6, 2025. Additional reporting requirements and evaluations will be necessary after funding is awarded.

The SUPS grant supports various operational expenses, including salaries, benefits, travel, and occupancy costs. It excludes capital expenses, penalties, in-kind expenses, and other unallowable costs. The grant aims to enhance the impact of arts organizations in urban communities while ensuring accessibility and promoting diverse artistic representation across Tennessee.
