Description
The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG) offers the Class A Neighborhood Stormwater Quality Projects Incentive Grant Program to support local efforts aimed at improving stormwater quality within residential areas. Administered by the Division of Water Quality, this program funds projects that reduce stormwater pollution, enhance water quality, and promote community involvement in sustainable environmental practices.
This grant opportunity is available exclusively to neighborhood, community, and homeowner associations within Fayette County, Kentucky. Eligible associations must be incorporated with the Commonwealth of Kentucky and represent single-family homeowners or agricultural properties. Furthermore, applicants must be contributing to the local Water Quality Management Fee to qualify for funding. The program supports a range of environmental improvement projects such as stream cleanups, rain garden installations, rain barrel programs, planting trees along streams, storm drain marking, and retention pond enhancements.
There are two types of grants under the Class A structure: feasibility projects and full implementation projects. Feasibility projects may receive up to $45,000, while full projects can receive as much as $120,000. In both cases, a 20% cost share is required, which can be fulfilled through cash contributions or in-kind donations.
The application deadline for Fiscal Year 2026 is Friday, May 2, 2025. Applications must be submitted in both physical and digital format. Specifically, applicants must deliver nine hard copies and one digital copy of the completed application and all attachments to the Division of Water Quality’s office at 125 Lisle Industrial Ave., Suite 180, Lexington, KY 40511.
To support applicants, the LFUCG provides several resources, including sample application documents, budget templates, and guidance on project ideas such as geese mitigation, educational seminars, and stormwater-friendly landscaping techniques.
