EQT Foundation Capacity Building Grants
This funding opportunity provides up to $25,000 to help nonprofit organizations in EQT Corporation's service areas improve their operations and effectiveness through various capacity-building projects.
Description
The EQT Foundation, an initiative of EQT Corporation, focuses on philanthropic support to enrich communities in areas where EQT operates. Since its establishment, the Foundation has awarded nearly $80 million to nonprofits across its service areas. The Foundation emphasizes building strong partnerships with nonprofits that contribute to the stability and development of communities, which is directly tied to EQT's business success. By practicing trust-based philanthropy, it aims to support projects that focus on long-term community prosperity, sustainability, and workforce development. The Foundation’s funding strategy targets areas such as education, workforce training, community enrichment, and environmental preservation, with a special focus on projects that have a proven, positive impact on local communities.
The EQT Foundation primarily supports nonprofit organizations with a track record of positive, trusted, and necessary impacts in their respective communities. Preference is given to proposals backed by evidence, analysis, and creative solutions for addressing pressing local issues. The Foundation also looks for projects aligned with EQT Corporation's business locations, effective management of available resources, and substantial public recognition of the nonprofit organization. Its goal is to help communities thrive and build an enduring foundation for future success.
One of the Foundation’s key initiatives is the “EQT Energize Your Education Scholarship Program.” This program offers one-time $10,000 academic scholarships to high school seniors intending to pursue studies in fields relevant to the oil and natural gas industry, including engineering, earth sciences, IT, and cybersecurity. Applicants must be from specific counties in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio, where EQT operates, and must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Importantly, children of EQT employees are not eligible for this scholarship.
In addition to the scholarship program, the EQT Foundation focuses on three key areas: Community Enrichment, Education & Workforce Development, and Environmental Preservation. Community enrichment efforts include supporting local food banks, libraries, community arts programs, and other local initiatives that foster a diverse, healthy, and sustainable community environment. The Foundation also invests in programs that promote proficiency in STEM subjects, offering hands-on learning experiences for students in grades K-12. Examples include computer camps, career planning, and professional development for educators.
The environmental arm of the EQT Foundation focuses on initiatives that educate the public on the importance of conserving natural resources and minimizing the impact of human activities on the environment. Funding examples include the creation of community gardens, watershed conservation efforts, and environmental education programs aimed at preserving green spaces.
The EQT Foundation also offers capacity-building grants for nonprofits to improve their organizational structure, operational efficiency, and financial sustainability. These grants, which are available annually, help nonprofits upgrade their technology, carry out strategic planning, develop their staff, and ensure they are equipped to meet future challenges. Nonprofits can apply for up to $25,000 for such projects. The application process for these capacity-building grants is open from May 1 to August 1 each year.
Applications for grants from the EQT Foundation must be submitted through the Foundation’s online system. The Foundation's Board of Directors meets quarterly to review applications, and applicants are encouraged to submit their proposals by the deadlines in February, May, August, or November each year. The Foundation may request additional information and reserves the right to postpone funding decisions. It is important to note that due to a high volume of requests, the Foundation does not provide immediate evaluations or funding decisions.
