Greater Flint Arts Council

This grant provides financial support to nonprofit arts organizations in Genesee County, Michigan, to enhance community engagement and cultural initiatives through various arts programs.

Description

The Genesee County Arts and Cultural Millage Grant, managed by the Greater Flint Arts Council (GFAC), provides funding to support arts organizations in Genesee County, Michigan, aiming to strengthen their capacity to transform communities through arts and cultural initiatives. This grant program is dependent on funds from the Flint Cultural Center Foundation, and awards are subject to the continuation of this funding source. GFAC offers multiple grant categories focused on promoting vibrant, inclusive community experiences, stimulating local economies, and improving quality of life through the arts.

Applicants can apply only to one program, except that Program 2 (Community Cultural Planning Charrette) may be paired with Program 4. Each program has distinct funding limits and requirements:

Creative Placemaking: Up to $2,500 to fund collaborative arts projects that shape public spaces with diverse partnerships. Projects must involve paid artists from Genesee County, with at least 50% of funds allocated to artist fees.
Community Cultural Planning Charrette: Also up to $2,500 to facilitate community assessments and cultural planning. Although no matching funds are required, securing sponsorships is encouraged. Professional consultants are recommended.
Program and Services Grant – Tier I: Up to $5,000 for 501(c)(3) arts organizations without paid staff or a permanent venue, to support program-related costs. Funds must be matched and cannot exceed the organization’s recent annual expenses.
Program and Services Grant – Tier II: Up to $30,000 for larger 501(c)(3) arts organizations with paid staff and a public venue, supporting programming expenses. Like Tier I, funds require a match and cannot exceed the organization’s recent annual expenses.
All applicants must be nonprofit arts organizations or cultural offices within Genesee County, with a three-year minimum 501(c)(3) designation and a mission solely dedicated to arts or cultural programming. Tier II applicants must also provide recent audit documentation.

Applications are due by December 2, 2024, at 4:45 PM. GFAC hosts virtual grant workshops and employs a peer panel review process to ensure transparent, community-based evaluation. Grant recipients must submit a final report detailing activities, finances, and supporting materials. Noncompliance with reporting requirements may disqualify organizations from future funding for one year.
