Fund for Islamic Understanding, Education and Dialogue in Michigan and Ohio
This grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan that promote understanding of Muslims and the Islamic faith through educational programs and community dialogue initiatives.
Description
The Fund for Islamic Understanding, Education, and Dialogue, managed by the Greater Toledo Community Foundation, supports nonprofit organizations fostering a greater understanding of Muslims and the Islamic faith. Grants are available for educational programs, direct service projects encouraging collaboration between Muslims and non-Muslims, and opportunities for interpersonal dialogue. Multi-faith events may also qualify if they place significant emphasis on Islamic understanding. Awards are competitive, with a funding limit of $5,000 per project.
Applicants must be 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations serving northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan (Lenawee and Monroe Counties). Proposals must outline the project’s purpose, implementation plans, evaluation criteria, and strategies for sustaining the program after funding ends. Applicants must also provide a detailed project budget, including all income sources and specific uses for requested grant funds.
Applications are due annually by February 15 and must be submitted through the Foundation’s online system. Late, emailed, or mailed submissions will not be accepted. Applicants will be notified of funding decisions approximately four months after submission, and expenses incurred before notification are not eligible for reimbursement. The Fund emphasizes that awards are competitive and should not be expected as recurring support.
Required attachments include a list of the organization’s board members, IRS tax-exempt verification, organizational background, financial statements (audited or unaudited from the past 18 months), and a current board-approved operating budget. These documents must be uploaded in Word, Excel, or PDF format to the online application system.
To ensure compliance with submission requirements, applicants are encouraged to review the guidelines carefully. For additional information or to discuss eligibility, potential applicants can contact Renee Daley, Program Officer, at 419-241-5049 or via email at renee.daley@toledocf.org.
