The City of Bloomington’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration Commission is seeking nominations for the 2025 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Award. This annual award honors individuals, businesses, and advocacy groups that have made substantial contributions to race relations, justice, and human rights in Monroe County. The award will be presented at Bloomington's Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration in January.

Nominees must be Monroe County residents or local organizations with at least one year of service, demonstrating a proven commitment to improving community conditions and advancing race relations, racial justice, or human rights. Nominations are due by November 30, 2024, and must be submitted online at tinyurl.com/2025-legacy-nominations.

The King Commission, which promotes Dr. King’s legacy of diversity and justice, also sponsors several initiatives, including the “Day ON! Not a Day Off” volunteer effort, the “40 Days of Peace” pledge, and the citywide MLK Birthday Celebration. Throughout the year, it supports programs dedicated to racial justice and equal opportunity.
