Mennonite Mission Network

This funding opportunity supports underfunded ministries and organizations led by People of Color in the U.S. that are dedicated to anti-racism, social justice, and community healing initiatives.

Description

The Mennonite Mission Network is offering anti-racism grants to underfunded ministries and agencies within the United States that are led by Asian, Black, Hispanic, Indigenous, or other People of Color (POC). These grants aim to support organizations engaged in peacebuilding, social justice, and anti-racism efforts. The program is designed to address historical and systemic disparities that have marginalized POC communities and to empower small nonprofits that often face challenges in obtaining sufficient funding despite their impactful work.

The purpose of the grant is to advance peace, justice, and community healing through grassroots efforts that align with the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. This initiative acknowledges the mission of God as central to fostering reconciliation and justice, starting within local communities. By focusing on anti-racism and social equity, the grants seek to amplify the work of organizations committed to dismantling racism and fostering intercultural relationships.

Organizations may apply for grants of up to $15,000, with a total funding pool of $50,000 allocated for the 2025 cycle. The size of individual grants will depend on the specific needs and potential impact of the applicant’s projects. Eligible organizations must operate within the United States and demonstrate leadership by POC individuals or groups engaged in peacebuilding, conflict resolution, racial and social justice, or related initiatives. Priority will be given to smaller organizations whose work aligns with the program’s goals.

The application process involves submitting an online application by January 31, 2025. Applications will be reviewed by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) team at Mennonite Mission Network, in consultation with diverse members of Mennonite Church USA. Recipients will be required to submit an annual report detailing the use of funds and the outcomes achieved. This reporting ensures accountability and provides opportunities to share success stories and assess the grants' impact.

Mennonite Mission Network is deeply committed to community outreach to ensure the program reaches those who need it most. Collaboration with community leaders and organizations is central to this effort. The DEI team, comprising diverse staff members, oversees this program and integrates its values into the broader mission of the organization. Guided by a vision of becoming an intercultural organization where equity, anti-racism, and inclusion are evident, the Mission Network aims to align its work with principles of diversity, equity, and the dismantling of systemic injustices.

The grants reflect the Network’s commitment to transforming its structures and relationships through an anti-racism lens. Core commitments include dismantling racist practices, creating equitable processes, fostering belonging and psychological safety for employees, and holding the organization accountable for reaching restorative and anti-racist goals. This initiative exemplifies the Network’s broader mission of joining in God’s work of peace and justice.
