This grant provides funding to early-career medical physicists and post-doctoral fellows dedicated to advancing research in radiation oncology.

Description

The 2025 ASTRO-AAPM Physics Resident/Post-Doctoral Fellow Seed Grant is a jointly funded initiative from the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) and the American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO). This seed grant program aims to promote innovative radiation oncology research by supporting early-career scientists, specifically medical physics residents and post-doctoral fellows. The purpose of the grant is to advance the field of radiation oncology physics and to support the development of future leaders in the field.

The grant offers funding to individuals who are current and active members of both AAPM and ASTRO. Eligible applicants must demonstrate a career commitment to radiation oncology-related physics research and must be affiliated with an institution that provides robust research and clinical career development infrastructure. This includes qualified faculty members in both physics and radiation oncology who are capable of serving as mentors. Applicants who are physics residents must have institutional support that allows them to dedicate at least 75% of their time to research for a minimum of one year.

This program anticipates awarding up to two grants, with each grant providing a maximum of $50,000. The grant period runs from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026. Indirect costs are not supported by this award. Applicants are required to disclose if they are submitting the same or a similar proposal to another funding source so that the review committee can consider this during the evaluation process.

Applicants should refer to the official announcement for detailed submission requirements. The application deadline is March 20, 2025. All applications must be submitted in accordance with the guidelines provided. For questions or further information about the program, applicants can contact the grant administrator at grantsandfellowships@aapm.org. The program is administered through the AAPM Science Council and supported by the AAPM Education & Research Fund in collaboration with ASTRO.
