This program provides financial support to rural volunteer fire departments to improve their wildland fire suppression capabilities and enhance firefighter safety through the purchase of essential equipment.

Description

The Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) Grant Program provides financial and technical assistance to rural volunteer fire departments to enhance wildland fire suppression capabilities. Grants of up to $3,500 are available on a 50/50 cost share basis to improve firefighter safety and equip departments with NFPA approved wildland personal protective equipment, power tools, fire engines, and communications equipment. Eligible departments serve rural areas or communities with populations under 10,000. Applications are competitive and evaluated using a points system. The 2024 application period is open until August 15, 2024.
