This grant provides funding to nonprofits, schools, churches, and government agencies in Benton Harbor, St. Joseph, and Stevensville, Michigan, to support programs that improve the lives of children and youth through education, mental health, safety, and future success initiatives.
Description
The Carolyn’s Kids grant program is a partnership between the Hanson Family Foundation and the Berrien Community Foundation. It supports initiatives that enhance the lives of children and youth in the Benton Harbor, St. Joseph, and Stevensville areas of Michigan. Inspired by Carolyn Hanson’s belief in the importance of strengthening children for the future of the community and the world, the grants are intended for either new or existing programs that address the evolving needs of young people.
Two grants of $50,000 each will be awarded in 2025. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, schools, churches engaged in community work, and governmental agencies. Programs must aim to improve children’s lives by meeting basic needs, enhancing education, supporting mental and emotional well-being, contributing to safety and security, or preparing children for future success. Applications are encouraged to feature strong collaboration or partnerships and should have the requested $50,000 grant as a significant portion of the total project budget. Projects can be either single-year or multi-year efforts, such as budgeting $25,000 annually over two years.
Applications must be submitted by July 1, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Winners will be announced in September 2025 at the Berrien Community Foundation Annual Meeting.
