Ceiling: $10,000
Local
City of Houston

This funding opportunity provides financial support to recognized neighborhood councils in Houston for community beautification and improvement projects that enhance public spaces and foster community engagement.

Description

The City of Houston's Department of Neighborhoods Super Neighborhood Grant Program (SNGP) for FY2025 provides funding from $500 to $7,000 to support community beautification and improvement projects. This program is specifically designed to enhance the quality of life in Houston neighborhoods by fostering community involvement and supporting projects that contribute to neighborhood beautification, accessibility, and engagement. Eligible projects include physical improvements like street sign toppers, landscaping, park benches, and entryway signage. Projects must be accessible to the public and provide long-lasting community benefits.

To be eligible, applicants must be part of an active Super Neighborhood Council (SNC) recognized by the City of Houston, have a checking account with an elected treasurer, and register as a vendor with the City. The program prohibits funding for political activities, completed projects, or in-kind expenses such as volunteer labor and donated materials. Applicants must submit original receipts after project completion to receive reimbursement, as cash transactions and in-kind contributions are not reimbursable.

Applications are accepted from October 7, 2024, to November 29, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. Proposals should include an online application, a project description, evidence of site ownership or permission to use the site, and meeting minutes showing approval by the neighborhood council. Three letters of support from local organizations or officials and any required city department approvals are also mandatory. Applicants should ensure the project's costs, scope of work, and all vendor documentation are clearly outlined.

The application review process includes evaluations by the Department of Neighborhoods and the City’s Strategic Purchasing Division, with award notifications expected by January 6, 2025. Funded projects must be completed by June 2, 2025, and all necessary documentation submitted within five business days of completion for reimbursement. For projects needing permits or city approval (e.g., for park equipment or subdivision markers), pre-approval is required to avoid disqualification.

For further assistance or vendor registration, applicants may contact the City of Houston’s Strategic Procurement Division or specific department coordinators. This grant opportunity is ideal for neighborhood councils focused on community improvements that offer visible, sustainable benefits and foster community spirit.
