2025 Emergency Responder Health & Wellness Grant
This grant provides financial support to volunteer fire departments and non-profit EMS organizations in Texas to improve the health and wellness of emergency responders through various health initiatives.
Description
The 2025 Emergency Responder Health & Wellness Grant, sponsored by VFIS of Texas and Texas Mutual Insurance Company, supports fire departments and non-profit EMS organizations across Texas by funding health and wellness initiatives. Now in its 11th year, the program has awarded over $2.5 million since its inception. In 2024 alone, $436,436.82 was distributed to 114 departments. This need-based grant program continues to prioritize the health and safety of emergency responders, with a focus on injury prevention and cancer mitigation.
The grant provides up to $5,000 per recipient based on demonstrated financial need. Funds are allocated for health and wellness programs aimed at reducing responder deaths, injuries, and cancer risks. Examples of eligible expenses include physical exams, exercise and rehabilitation equipment, cancer screenings, decontamination supplies, washable gloves, and specialized turnout gear care equipment. Recipients must initially cover the costs and submit proof of purchase to receive reimbursement.
Eligible applicants include all-volunteer or mostly-volunteer fire departments and non-profit EMS organizations that serve populations of 100,000 or fewer and are legally organized within Texas. The program specifically targets smaller, community-focused emergency services entities with limited resources. Departments meeting these criteria are encouraged to apply.
The application process requires a completed form, an attached quote for items or services, and a signed W-9. Applications must be submitted by December 31, 2024. Successful applicants will be notified of their awards by January 31, 2025. To secure funding, departments must submit receipts for approved purchases by May 1, 2025.
