This funding opportunity is designed to support K-12 schools, colleges, universities, and local governments in Michigan in enhancing educational programs about Native American history and culture, revising offensive mascots, and promoting mutual respect.

Description

The Native American Heritage Fund is open for applications by public or private K-12 schools (including charter schools), accredited colleges or universities located in Michigan, and local units of government within Michigan. This includes school districts, community college districts, intermediate school districts, and certain other governmental entities. The fund specifically excludes for-profit and wholly online educational institutions. Eligible non-profit organizations must partner with one of the aforementioned entities who will act as the grant fiduciary. Applications must be submitted by June 7, 2024, 5:00 p.m.
The fund specifically targets the improvement of educational curricula on Michigan Indian history, the revision of offensive mascots and imagery, and other projects promoting mutual respect.
