US Department of Transportation (Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Admin)

This funding opportunity provides financial support to national nonprofit fire service organizations to improve training for public-sector responders dealing with hazardous materials incidents, particularly in underserved communities.

Description

The SPST Grant Program was authorized by Congress in the Hazardous Materials Transportation Authorization Act of 1994 (P. L. 103311), which amended 49 U.S.C. 5116 and added a new subsection (i) concerning supplemental training grants. SPST grants are open to national nonprofit fire service organizations to train instructors to conduct HAZMAT response training programs for individuals with statutory responsibility to respond to HAZMAT accidents and incidents. To the extent determined appropriate, SPST grant funds may also be used to train individuals responsible for responding to accidents and incidents involving hazardous material.
