OAR Peer Education Grant
This grant provides funding for educators, parents, and community organizers to implement projects that promote autism awareness and acceptance among children in schools and community organizations.
Description
The Peer Education Grant, offered by the Organization for Autism Research (OAR), supports initiatives that promote autism acceptance and understanding among children. The program provides grants of up to $10,000 for district-wide projects and $500 to $5,000 for smaller-scale projects. It encourages the use of OAR’s peer education materials, such as the Kit for Kids and Autism Tuned In, to foster inclusive relationships and increase autism awareness through activities like workshops, campaigns, and educational presentations.
Eligible applicants include teachers, administrators, parents, youth group organizers, and autism professionals planning autism awareness initiatives. Projects can take place in K-12 public schools, libraries, 501(c)(3) nonprofits, or other community organizations, including those on U.S. military installations overseas. Special consideration is given to school districts and organizations serving low-income communities.
Grant funds may cover costs such as printing OAR materials, venue rentals, honorariums, guest speaker travel, and refreshments but cannot be used for salaries. Applications are evaluated based on the quality of the project, its scope, the number of students impacted, and the funding requested.
The application period is currently open, with a submission deadline of January 13, 2025. Projects may begin as early as April 1, 2025. Application materials, including budget guidelines, are available on the OAR website. For additional questions or support, applicants can refer to OAR’s Peer Education Grant FAQs or contact OAR directly.
