This program provides financial support to grassroots watershed organizations in Western Pennsylvania for projects focused on water quality monitoring, habitat restoration, and community outreach to protect and restore local watersheds.

Description

The BHE GT&S Watershed Mini Grant Program, managed by the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, supports grassroots watershed organizations in Western Pennsylvania. Funded by the BHE Foundation and BHE GT&S, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Energy, the program offers grants in three categories: Water Quality Monitoring (up to $3,500), Restoration Projects (up to $3,500), and Organizational Promotion and Outreach (up to $2,500). These grants are designed to aid efforts that protect and restore local watersheds, enhance environmental quality, and promote community engagement.

Eligible applicants include watershed organizations operating in designated Pennsylvania counties such as Allegheny, Beaver, Cambria, Clinton, Franklin, and Westmoreland, among others. Funding can be used for activities like testing water quality, executing habitat restoration projects, and conducting community outreach or promotional efforts to raise awareness about watershed issues.

The application period for the 2025 program is now open, with submissions required to be mailed and postmarked by December 16, 2024. Applications can be downloaded from the program’s website. Applicants must ensure all required documentation is included and submitted on time.
