The LIFE Center Fund, established in 2005 by the Oregon Community Foundation, continues the legacy of the Low Income Family Emergency (LIFE) Center, which supported individuals by providing critical resources and opportunities for self-improvement. The fund awards two-year grants aimed at meeting critical needs such as food, clothing, household items, prescription and hygiene assistance, and school supplies for residents of North, Northeast, and Southeast Portland.

Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations, with priority given to those clearly aligned with the LIFE Center's mission, particularly smaller organizations where a $7,500 to $10,000 grant will have a significant impact. Organizations outside Portland city limits may apply, provided the funds are used for Portland residents. General operating budget requests are not competitive.
