Cultural Education and Outreach Program
This grant provides funding to organizations that will educate students and families in the Poverty Bay Shellfish Protection District about reducing fecal pollution through community outreach and culturally relevant materials.
Description
The "Cultural Education and Outreach Program on Fecal Pollution for Students and Families" (RFP #2024EHS658RFP), funded by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), seeks proposals to educate and raise awareness among students and families in the Poverty Bay Shellfish Protection District (SPD) on reducing fecal pollution. The RFP, issued by Public Health-Seattle & King County (PHSKC) Environmental Health Services Division, emphasizes creating outreach materials and campaigns that focus on septic system maintenance, pet waste reduction, wildlife feeding, and side sewer upkeep. The program aims to engage communities with limited English proficiency, marginalized groups, and those with diverse cultural backgrounds to foster environmental justice and healthier ecosystems.
Proposals are due by October 21, 2024, and should include a comprehensive strategy for creating and distributing educational content that aligns with local needs. Proposers must detail their experience in developing educational materials, describe plans for community-led outreach campaigns, and outline how the effectiveness of the campaign will be measured. A strong focus is placed on community engagement, especially with underrepresented groups, and the creation of messages that promote behavioral changes in daily activities related to water quality.
The total budget for this initiative is $20,000, with an additional $5,000 for supplies provided directly by PHSKC. Proposals should include cost estimates for developing materials, event hosting, and assessing campaign impact. The program requires a thorough assessment of project outcomes, including both pre- and post-event surveys to measure the success of educational efforts.
Applicants must submit all required documents, including the signed RFP response cover sheet, and answers to specific questions about experience, outreach plans, timelines, and budgets. The evaluation criteria are based on experience in education, promotion, event development, and budget clarity. Interviews may be conducted if further clarification is required during the selection process.
Contracts will begin on November 25, 2024, and the project is expected to be completed by December 31, 2025. Ongoing reporting, including quarterly updates and final assessments, will be required from the selected contractor to ensure accountability and transparency in the program’s progress.
