Seattle Fund for Teen Tech & Career Development
This grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations in King County that offer technical education and career training to underserved teens, helping them explore technology-related careers and develop essential skills.
Description
The Best Buy Foundation Seattle Fund offers grant funding to organizations that support teens by providing technical education and career training outside of traditional school hours. The foundation's mission is to empower teens, particularly those from underserved communities, by giving them access to technology and opportunities that will help them prepare for future careers in technology. This grant program focuses on two areas: Career Pathways and Teens & Tech.
The Career Pathways Grant is designed for programs that aim to generate interest in tech-related careers among teens ages 13-21 from underserved communities. The goal is to improve access to training, credentialing, and employment, thus supporting tech career progression. The program targets a wide range of tech fields, including, but not limited to, audio production, website development, computer maintenance and repair, digital arts, cybersecurity, mobile app development, and robotics. Applicants must be nonprofit organizations with at least two years of experience working with youth in the King County metro area, and the request amount cannot exceed 49% of the program's total budget.
The Teens & Tech Grant supports organizations providing hands-on learning opportunities for teens ages 13-18. The aim is to expose underserved teens to technological exploration and help them build skills that will benefit them in future careers. This program encourages engagement with technologies like computers, digital cameras, and video cameras. Organizations applying for this grant must be based in King County, Washington, and have at least two years of experience providing programming that serves underserved teens. Similar to the Career Pathways Grant, the requested amount for this program should not exceed 49% of the total program budget.
For both grants, the application process requires detailed proposals submitted online. Applicants must outline their program goals, objectives, and the specific activities they intend to fund. Additional technology requirements, if any, should be mentioned in the proposal. Although it is not a requirement, applicants may also apply for future funding based on demonstrated success in previous cycles. Proposals will be reviewed by the Best Buy Foundation staff, and feedback will be provided to applicants upon request.
The funding amount for each grant typically ranges from $5,000 to $15,000, with a grant period of up to one year. The proposal deadline for the current cycle is March 1, and organizations will be notified of funding decisions by April 30. If selected for funding, grantees may be eligible for future grants based on the success of their program. Further details about the application process and additional guidelines can be found on the Best Buy Foundation's website.
